US releases defense budget requiring lower use of Russian energy
WASHINGTON, Dec 7 (PRIME) -- The U.S. Congress committees have approved the Fiscal 2023 National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, that envisages initiatives to reduce the state’s dependence on Russia’s energy sources, as seen by PRIME in the document released on Tuesday.
“Combating reliance on Russian energy: Requires all main operating bases in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility to adopt installation energy plans to increase energy resiliency and sustainability in order to reduce reliance on Russian energy and sets a Department of Defense goal of eliminating their use of Russian energy entirely,” the document read.
The act also includes an initiative to impose sanctions for participation in the gold and foreign currency operations with Russia.
